A note from the principal...
I would like to thank you all for another great year at Parkway School! Our students have worked very hard this year and we have seen a tremendous amount of academic and behavioral growth across all grade levels. Our staff works diligently each day to make sure our students are well-taught and we have wonderful support from community volunteers who help in our classrooms each day and parents who continue working with our students when they get home. As we prepare to promote our 8th grade class to the high school next week, it is comforting to know that we have another great group of students ready to step up to be the leaders in our school next year. We’re also excited about a new group of kindergarten students who will join us next year. With all of us working together, Parkway School will continue
to be a great place to learn and grow!
Thank you for a fantastic year!

As we near the end of the school year, many parents and family members will be making plans to come to school to help with proctoring, end of the year parties, field trips and other special events. If you have not submitted the background check form THIS SCHOOL YEAR, please be sure that you do that before you come to volunteer with our students in any way. Background checks are valid for one school year, so even if you completed one last year, we have to have one on file
Bus Driver Training Class
A bus driver training class is being offered in Watauga County June 28-30. The training will take place at the Watauga County Agriculture Conference Center located on King Street in Boone. The classes are 8:30-3:00 each day. There is no cost for the class. For more information, contact Jeff Lyons at 264-7190.
Special Safety Drills
You probably know that we are required to have a fire drill each month. We try to switch up the days and times we have these drills so that students learn what to do no matter where they might be in the building in the event we had a true emergency that required us to evacuate. At this time we are not required to have a certain number of lock down drills each year, but we do try to have at least two. We had a scheduled Lock Down Drill earlier this semester and It went very well. Please make note that we will have at least one more lock down drill this year and this one WILL NOT be announced ahead of time. We may have students outside on the playground, in the cafeteria, or everyone may be in class. We need to practice lock down drills at various times for the same reason we have fire drills at various times. We all need to be prepared and know where to go and what to do during times of crisis no matter where we are in the building. We will continue to talk with our students regularly about our safety procedures to help ensure we are keeping your students as safe as possible. Please contact Mrs. Weeks or Mrs. Buckner if you have any questions about our safety drills.
