Parkway Needs YOU!
End of Grade Testing will begin Tuesday, May 31. We will need about 20 proctors to help with testing each day. Training is quick and easy and this is a great way for you to help our school. Test dates for Parkway are Tuesday, May 31, Wednesday, June 1, Thursday, June 2, and Wednesday 8. If you can help proctor any of those days, please contact Mrs. Buckner at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the school at 264-3032.
As we near the end of the school year, many parents and family members will be making plans to come to school to help with proctoring, end of the year parties, field trips and other special events. If you have not submitted the background check form THIS SCHOOL YEAR, please be sure that you do that before you come to volunteer with our students in any way. Background checks are valid for one school year, so even if you completed one last year, we have to have one on file
Bus Driver Training Class
A bus driver training class is being offered in Watauga County June 28-30. The training will take place at the Watauga County Agriculture Conference Center located on King Street in Boone. The classes are 8:30-3:00 each day. There is no cost for the class. For more information, contact Jeff Lyons at 264-7190.
Special Safety Drills
You probably know that we are required to have a fire drill each month. We try to switch up the days and times we have these drills so that students learn what to do no matter where they might be in the building in the event we had a true emergency that required us to evacuate. At this time we are not required to have a certain number of lock down drills each year, but we do try to have at least two. We had a scheduled Lock Down Drill earlier this semester and It went very well. Please make note that we will have at least one more lock down drill this year and this one WILL NOT be announced ahead of time. We may have students outside on the playground, in the cafeteria, or everyone may be in class. We need to practice lock down drills at various times for the same reason we have fire drills at various times. We all need to be prepared and know where to go and what to do during times of crisis no matter where we are in the building. We will continue to talk with our students regularly about our safety procedures to help ensure we are keeping your students as safe as possible. Please contact Mrs. Weeks or Mrs. Buckner if you have any questions about our safety drills.
Final Box Tops for Education Contest Don’t forget to bring in your Box Tops for Education for our last contest of the year! The grade level with the most box tops turned in by Friday, May 27, will receive an ice cream and cookie party! Help us raise money for our school and win a treat for your grade level at the same time. Track our progress on the bulletin board in front of the main office.
“TASTE Local Food” Grant Received
Mrs. Shannon Carroll, our Lettuce Learn Garden Coordinator, is pleased to announce that our Lettuce Learn program has received a $500 grant from High Country Local First and Lettuce Learn to provide three taste testing opportunities during lunch for our students. We are excited to give our students the opportunity to taste some foods they might not have tried before
|TUTORS: Our Parkway reading program has a need for reading tutors for second grader students. Training will be provided and all plans are prepared for you. The training will be on Wednesday, February 3 at 8:00. The tutoring sessions will run from Monday, February 8 through Wednesday, May 4 from 8:00-8:50. If you are interested, please email or call Mrs. Campbell at email@example.com or 264-3032.|
|SCHOOL GARDEN NEEDS: Mr. Tidyman is now collecting 3- and 5-gallon containers for spring planting. Bakeries often have empty containers of these sizes they will donate if you just ask. We are also accepting coffee grounds to add to our compost pile. Local coffee shops sometimes have these out for customers to pick up at no charge.
